read to me is a private read-aloud application. Access is by invitation only; there is no public signup. By signing in with your Google account you agree to the terms on this page. If you do not agree, please close the tab — there is no other consequence, and no data is retained about that decision.
Use the application for personal or household read-aloud sessions with your family. Do not use it to read books commercially, to redistribute the extracted text, or to build a paid service on top of your library. The purpose of the app is to let a parent, grandparent, or older sibling narrate the family’s existing books at bedtime.
You must own the physical or digital copy of any book you upload. The extracted text and cached narration audio are stored to serve youand no one else — a separate user cannot access your library. The application is not a substitute for buying books, and the operators do not accept books that you do not own the rights to enjoy privately.
The application relies on OpenAI’s GPT-4o vision endpoint for text extraction and the TTS endpoint for narration. By uploading a page image or generating narration you accept that the corresponding content is transmitted to OpenAI over an authenticated API. Refer to OpenAI’s own terms and privacy policy for how they process API traffic.
The application is self-hosted on a single server owned by the operator. It might be down for maintenance, updates, or infrastructure moves. No uptime guarantee is offered and none is implied. If the service is down and you need it urgently, read the book in the usual way.
These terms may change as the application evolves. If a change is substantive, the operator will notify the small circle of invited users directly. Continued use after such a notification means you accept the updated terms.
The application is provided as-is, without any warranty. To the greatest extent allowed by law, the operator is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the app — including, but not limited to, incorrect text extraction, garbled narration, or a book that turns out to be less exciting than the child had hoped.
